Uniquely at Parker

Horizons operates under the 501(c)(3) of Francis Parker School (Parker), where Parker acts as the fiscal sponsor. Horizons does not receive any direct financial support from Parker, but does receive in-kind use of the school building and other support. 

Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1310 students in grades JK-12. Founded in 1912, the school’s mission is “to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world.” Francis Parker School has two campuses in close proximity. One in Mission Hills (Lower School JK-5), and a second in Linda Vista (Middle and Upper School 6-8 and 9-12, respectively).

Parker has a deep commitment to building a school community that truly is global in perspective, diverse in composition, and reflective of our world. Our goal is to be one community where all members feel valued, included, and respected.

At Parker, we know our learning environment is enhanced by the different stories and experiences of each member of our school community. We are one community composed of many families representing a broad range of viewpoints, cultures, and backgrounds–we all learn from each other.

There are many ways for members of the Parker community to get involved with Horizons’ mission and work, including:

  • Summer Volunteers - Upper School Parker students are encouraged to join our summer volunteer team! 
  • Board Members - Various Horizons Interim Board members are a part of the Parker community
  • Summer Teachers - Parker faculty/staff are welcome to work as Horizons summer staff or volunteer to lead fun enrichment classes!
  • Fundraising Champions - Parker students and parents support Horizons fundraising efforts
